-   ORGANIC VS. CONVENTIONAL   -

So what is the difference between certified organic and conventional food? Certified organic farms are prohibited from using synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, as well as genetic engineering or genetically engineered organisms. The certification acts as an assurance to the customer that best growing practices were used.

Not every farm that follows organic and sustainable farming practices is certified organic. Smaller farms may find the expense of the certification process prohibitive. Still others believe they can produce high-quality, pesticide-free food with fewer resources (and methods such as integrated pesticide control) than are required to be certified organic. Moxie works with farmers to find out their growing practices and passes that information on to our customers. All certified organic items are indicated. For items that have not be certified organic, we indicate what kind of pest control is used so that our customers can make informed choices about their food.
